Before becoming a volunteer with Second Sky, social service existed mostly as a thought for me.
I cared about contributing to a meaningful cause, but good intentions do not always show us where to begin. Second Sky gave those thoughts direction.
It showed me that contributing does not have to remain an idea; there are real initiatives
through which we can participate, support others, and gradually create change.
Among Second Sky’s initiatives, Share a Wish connects with me most. Birthdays are
usually personal celebrations, but this initiative gives them a wider meaning by sharing
the occasion with children who may not often experience such celebrations. To me, that
is a thoughtful way of turning happiness into something shared. It does not take away
from our own special day; it makes the day more meaningful by allowing its joy to reach
someone else.
What keeps drawing me towards social service is the joy of giving. Whether it is through
a donation or another form of support, the feeling of contributing encourages me to do
more. I have realised that helping does not always begin with a grand action.
Sometimes, it begins with simply choosing not to ignore the desire to help.
Second Sky’s value of community feels especially personal to me. As someone who
loves cats, I hope to build a community dedicated to caring for them. That may be a
different cause, but the principle is the same: people who care about something can
come together and turn concern into action.
Through Second Sky, I hope to encourage more people to contribute to causes they
have always cared about but never had the opportunity or direction to support. To any
young person considering volunteering, I would say: take that step. It may not change
everything at once, but it can give you a new perspective on life and show you that your
willingness to help already has value.
